Ephemeral mists

Ephemeral Mists is the newest side project by composer Brett Branning (The synthetic dream foundation & Abandoned Toys). The debut album, "Moon Ritual" is out now on Mythical records.

The sound of the project is best described as downtempo ambient electronics mixed with ethnic world musics in the vein of "Karma" era Delerium, Amethystium, and Dead Can Dance. Its really a very intoxicatingly beautiful creation and I highly recommend it to anyone into ambient music styles.

With “Grey Surfaces” Tim Dwyer, the person behind Off Land, is back on Resting Bell with another beautiful release. The release contains five new compositions by Off Land and two remixes, done by Placement and Ennio Mazzon.

Compared to his last release “Encounter Point” “Grey Surfaces” is much more reduced, compact and monolithic. Each track has a kind of deep fundamental droning with field-recording fragments, shifting melodies and glitches in addtion to it all. The release is carefully arranged and placed to a single peaceful 40-minute voyage.

The two additional remixes give the tracks a slightly new coat of paint, leading to a noisier, harsher direction, but treat the source material with respectfulness and understanding.

Remarks from Resting Bell:

With 8 pieces and 75 minutes duration, “Encounter Point” is a monumental ambient work. All pieces are arranged very carefully and with a great sense for intensity and tension. The single tracks seem quite minimal and pure on the surface, but when you listen carefully, you can hear layers of different sound sources. There are outdoor-field recording parts, layered with soft keyboard patterns that fade into a slight beat, combined with a shy guitar melody. Every layer is like a unique story line through the complete work.

It’s a great acoustic quality when you’ve a huge depth of multiple sounds in the composition which don’t crush you, but instead give you the possibility to explore more and more with each listening.

compilation...Timonkey and Nanda...both from santa cruz (Sant Cruz in da HOUSE!), as well as muti's owner & founder DOV (an increadible producer and dj in his own right) plus Kitty~D and myself will be filling in whatever gaps there are. With this full on line up you a guaranteed an increadable night of fresh cutting edge new original music from all of these artists. Rumor has it that timonkey will be throwin' down and all original set with 13 never heard before tracks he's just been conjuring up in the studio. I've been wanting to get these guys into the church for a long time and it all came together for this cd release party. The Music of Faunaserene

I would like some feedback on my music. In the last 3 years I have been playing music by ear and It is clearly instrumental music. I enjoy playing it so much that I have recently decided to post it at esnips .....I recently bought a very wonderful studio mixer and have been mixing from it... I do play and its my music however I do not know how to read notes . SO I play by ear....I would truly like some feedback from ambient musicians on my music...Ive thought about taking it to CD Baby....But I would first like to know what genre I fall into.....lol.....Is it new age. downtempo what? I play keyboards and other instruments.....such as guitar. harp,lyre,mandolin,strumstick....I truly feel its defintely ambient stuff....All I know is its a soulful experience for me. and has been for the last 3 years....Well here is the link.....

1) Tea Time at Brian Eno's House

Here is the very first true "mixup" I did last year. Tea Time at Brian Eno's House is based on an idea of being invited to tea at Brian Eno's house and what one might hear from his in-house sound installation. The foundation of the mix is made up of long-form Eno cuts (Neroli, Thursday Afternoon, etc.) that play at very low levels throughout the mix. On top of that are Quiet American field recordings that fade in and out. On top of that are various Eno and other artist tracks mixed end to end and sometimes together. So, at any point in the mix, there are 2-5 things playing at the same time.

4) Book of Dreams

The title, Book of Dreams, is taken from a book by Jack Kerouac (as will the next several in the Lost Lake Stories collection). I tried to make this mix dream-like, having pieces of music float from one into another and fade out then back in again later as often happens with dreams. The music overall is very quiet with both ambient and acoustic elements present with a heavy reliance on strings (violin, cello). There is multi-level mixing and several field recordings, both Quiet American and a couple of my own, that whisper and play in the background like voices and distant sounds in dreams. 5) The Dharma Bums - An Ethno-Ambient Mix

This new mixup for 2007 is called The Dharma Bums. The title is taken from a book by Jack Kerouac which covers his exploration of Buddhism and the search for Truth. With this new mix I wanted to expand on the ethno-ambient feel of one of my other mixes, Tea Time at Brian Eno's House. The Dharma Bums was also greatly inspired by the amazing field recordings done by The Quiet American ( www.quietamerican.org ) and the superb ethno-ambient music of Loren Nerell ( home.earthlink.net/~lnerell/ ). My hope was to create a Pan-Asian soundworld using music inspired by, or artists from the Middle East, India and Indonesia.

This is the most complex, multi-level mix I have ever done and I am quite proud of the results. If you look at the music mix score (a jpeg contained in the Cover Art and Score Zip file you can download below), you will see that at any given time, there are at least two and sometimes up to seven different pieces of music or field recordings playing simultaneously. I used a total of 32 different Quiet American field recordings in the mix (on the music score, all Quiet American field recordings start with "QA"). I even made a small field recording myself. I hope you enjoy it.

I would like to dedicate this mix to The Quiet American and Loren Nerell.

6) Lonesome Traveler - An Ambient Mix

I have another ambient music mix available on my blog, The Hydrogen Cafe (hydrogencafe.blogspot.com). This is the third installment of the Lost Lake Stories cycle. This mixup was inspired by the movie Paris, Texas featuring an awesome soundtrack score by Ry Cooder. The movie opens with a man walking alone in the desert with nothing but the wind and sun for company. I took this image and decided to create my own soundtrack of a solitary lonesome man traveling in an empty quiet western landscape through deserts and small backwater towns…towns that whisper instead of shout. Keeping with the literary theme of the previous two mixes, the title comes from a book by Jack Kerouac, Lonesome Traveler, about his hobo-like wanderings through 1950’s America and Mexico. The mix has a decidedly twangy western feel to compliment Ry Cooder’s amazing slide guitar while keeping a slow, quiet ambient progression. The jpeg “score” for this mix is included in the Cover Art and Score Zip file. I hope you enjoy this new mixup. And remember, I like comments!

Badschematic is a non-profit and commerce-free netlabel, distributing unusual and challenging audio works in MP3 format. Ligand - "Exogenous Conveyances" = Ligand's sound could be described, upon an initial listen, as "ambient", but that only tells part of the story. A producer of unconventional music that wanders freely between the soothing and the surreal, Ligand works within the context of ambient music but does not worry overmuch about staying within its confines.

The Dharma Bums - An Ethno-Ambient Mix

This new mixup for 2007 is called The Dharma Bums. The title is taken from a book by Jack Kerouac which covers his exploration of Buddhism and the search for Truth. With this new mix I wanted to expand on the ethno-ambient feel of one of my other mixes, Tea Time at Brian Eno's House. The Dharma Bums was also greatly inspired by the amazing field recordings done by The Quiet American ( www.quietamerican.org ) and the superb ethno-ambient music of Loren Nerell ( http://home.earthlink.net/~lnerell/ ). My hope was to create a Pan-Asian soundworld using music inspired by, or artists from the Middle East, India and Indonesia.

This is the most complex, multi-level mix I have ever done and I am quite proud of the results. If you look at the music mix score (a jpeg contained in the Cover Art and Score Zip file you can download below), you will see that at any given time, there are at least two and sometimes up to seven different pieces of music or field recordings playing simultaneously. I used a total of 32 different Quiet American field recordings in the mix (on the music score, all Quiet American field recordings start with "QA"). I even made a small field recording myself. I hope you enjoy it.

I would like to dedicate this mix to The Quiet American and Loren Nerell.

Lonesome Traveler - An Ambient Mix

I have another ambient music mix available on my blog, The Hydrogen Cafe (http://hydrogencafe.blogspot.com). This is the third installment of the Lost Lake Stories cycle. This mixup was inspired by the movie Paris, Texas featuring an awesome soundtrack score by Ry Cooder. The movie opens with a man walking alone in the desert with nothing but the wind and sun for company. I took this image and decided to create my own soundtrack of a solitary lonesome man traveling in an empty quiet western landscape through deserts and small backwater towns…towns that whisper instead of shout. Keeping with the literary theme of the previous two mixes, the title comes from a book by Jack Kerouac, Lonesome Traveler, about his hobo-like wanderings through 1950’s America and Mexico. The mix has a decidedly twangy western feel to compliment Ry Cooder’s amazing slide guitar while keeping a slow, quiet ambient progression. The jpeg “score” for this mix is included in the Cover Art and Score Zip file. I hope you enjoy this new mixup. And remember, I like comments!
